From 1975 to 1993 Bill Hayes was a Co-Director of a much larger fishing company called Johnson's Sea Enterprises (Portsmouth) Ltd. where he was a Skipper on their trawlers for some 18 years. Johnsons was formed by 4 Directors, Mr B Johnson (MD, recently deceased), Mr J Henderson, Mr B Hayes and Mr C Hall (deceased in 1994). Johnson's started to build their fleet up to 7 trawlers ranging from 24m to 38m and were skippered by Bill, Joss and Clifford and fished mostly in Area IVb/c in the North Sea and landed their fish in Holland. In 1988 Johnson's Sea Enterprises had 2 new 38m vessels built in Stellendam, Holland at a cost of 6.6 million Dutch Guilders each (approx. 1.9 million sterling). One was part funded by an EU grant and the rest by Dutch Banks and their own company funds. Bill and his co-directors Clifford and Joss oversaw the entire operation from keel laying to final commission and he and Joss Skippered the vessels with their crews up until the early 1990's. In 1993 Johnson's Sea Enterprises was split as a company, where the Managing Director, Mr B Johnson and his son retained the goodwill and trading of the company. The 4th Director, Mr Hall, left the company in 1990. Bill Hayes left to form Victory Fishing.
